Knives are a great option for self-defense equipment. Of course, there is also an option to carry a gun provided you have a license & are okay to carry it everywhere. If not, the category of self-defense knives is the way to go. But, which knife exactly?

There is a wide range of knives that are useful for self-defense. It is upon you to decide which one suits you the best.

Design, color, and obviously utility is what you need to consider.

In this blog, we will let you know of one such knife which had been quite famous a while back. It was known in the self-defense knife category as the Karambit Folding knife.

So, what is a karambit knife exactly? Is it really good for self-defense? Are there better options than the karambit knife?

Let us find out.

What is a Karambit folding Knife?

The karambit knife was first found in Southeast Asia. As the blade was styled as a tiger's claw, it was sometimes referred to as the claw karambit knife. Because of their slashing and cutting abilities, these knives had multiple roles.

They served as a helping hand to farmers and the military. In fact, The shape of the blade makes it very effective, proved by a few hundred years of field testing by the Indonesian military.

These knives have changed very little over the course of time and in countries. These changes were mostly in the form of materials used.

The shape of the karambit knife is a curved knife from end to tip. This curved blade knife also had at least one finger loop for improved grip. This loop ensures you never lose the knife. The loop makes it difficult for someone to disarm you and prevent it from slipping.

But, it needs to be noted that, though there are many modern automatic knives or simple ones that don't have this loop but have an exceptional grip.

For self-defense purposes, you will need to hold this knife in a reverse grip. This allows you to slash easily when you need to protect yourself.

But, the shape being unique might not be the best choice for everyone.

So, we present to you our recommendations for self-defense knives that have a superior grip, sharp edges, and look cool.
