Utility Knives

Utility Knives

Made for the Work.

Cardboard, rope, carpet, plastic, zip ties. A utility knife does the jobs nobody else wants to. Ours are overbuilt with real steel and solid locks, so they keep cutting long after a box cutter would be in the trash.

Utility Knives Built for Hard Use

A utility knife is the one you grab for everything. Breaking down boxes, cutting rope and straps, trimming carpet and vinyl, scoring drywall, opening packaging on the job site. It gets used hard and often, so it needs to be tough, sharp, and easy to carry.

Off-Grid utility knives are built on proven steels: 154CM, Cryo D2, CPM MagnaCut, and Sandvik 14C28N. Each one gives you a different balance of edge retention, toughness, and rust resistance, so you can pick the steel that fits your work. Most people do best with a blade around 3 to 4 inches, enough for real cutting while still carrying easy.

Our most popular utility knives include the CLEAVER V3, BADGER, MAMBA V3, FAT BOY Blackout, and VIPER V2. Every one is backed by our lifetime warranty, and standard shipping is free on orders over $99. Want the full rundown? Read our utility knife guide.

Just about any everyday cutting job: cardboard, rope, plastic, carpet, vinyl, drywall, tape, and zip ties. It is a go-to tool for construction, warehouse work, home projects, and outdoor use. If it needs to be cut, a utility knife is usually the first thing you reach for.

Strong steel that holds an edge, a lock you can trust, and a handle that stays put when your hands are dirty or gloved. It should also carry easy, because a utility knife that stays in the truck does not help you. That is the standard every Off-Grid knife is built to.

A box cutter works fine for light jobs, but the thin blades snap, dull fast, and need constant replacing. A solid folding utility knife holds an edge much longer, handles tougher material, and can be resharpened instead of thrown away. It is one tool that does the job for years.

A blade around 3 to 4 inches covers most work and still carries comfortably for everyday carry. If you are cutting heavier material all day, a larger blade gives you more leverage. Check each product page for exact blade length and weight.

For wet or outdoor work, CPM MagnaCut and Sandvik 14C28N are hard to beat for rust resistance. Cryo D2 holds an edge a long time through abrasive material like cardboard. 154CM is a reliable all-rounder that is easy to sharpen. Pick the one that matches where and how you work.

A solid utility knife you can count on starts under $50, and high-end models with top steels run a few hundred dollars. Our lineup covers that range, so you can match the steel and materials to your budget without settling for a knife that will not last.

  • Pick your tool. A whetstone, diamond rod, or guided sharpener all work.
  • Hold a steady angle. Around 20 degrees per side works well for utility use.
  • Coarse, then fine. Start with a coarse grit to reset the edge, then finish fine.
  • Strop it. A few passes on leather removes the burr and polishes the edge.
  • Clean and dry it when you are done.

Wipe it clean and dry it after use, especially after wet or dirty work. Put a light coat of oil on the blade now and then, and do not store it somewhere damp. More tips on our Knife Care & Safety page.
