It comes down to the work you do most. A drop point is the best all-rounder for slicing and daily tasks. A clip point gives you a finer tip for detail work. A tanto has the strongest tip for piercing and hard use. We offer all three, plus reverse tanto models.

The best steel balances three things: how long it holds an edge, how well it resists rust, and how tough it is against chips and breaks. Cryo D2 is a tough tool steel with great edge retention. 154CM is a reliable stainless that is easy to sharpen. CPM MagnaCut is a U.S.-made steel that combines high toughness with excellent rust resistance, making it one of the best all-around steels available for EDC, outdoor, and tactical use.

Most people land between 3 and 4 inches of blade. That is enough knife for real work while still carrying comfortably in a front pocket. If you do heavier jobs or want more reach, a larger folder is worth the extra size. Check each product page for blade length and weight.

In most places, yes. But knife laws vary a lot by state, city, and country. Some areas limit blade length, opening type, or where you can carry. Always check your local laws before you carry.

• Pick your tool. A whetstone, diamond stone, or guided sharpener all work.
• Set the angle. About 15 to 20 degrees per side for most pocket knives.
• Work one side. Smooth, even strokes, holding the same angle the whole way.
• Match the other side. Same number of strokes to keep the edge centered.
• Refine and strop. Finish on a fine stone or ceramic rod, then strop to remove the burr.
• Test safely. Slice a piece of paper. Never test with your fingers.

Wipe it clean after use, dry it completely, and put a drop of oil on the pivot and blade now and then. Check the screws every so often and snug them up if needed. Store it closed in a dry place. More tips on our Knife Care & Safety page.
