We never stopped refining it. The latest version gets stronger T8 pocket clip screws that match the body screws, so one driver handles every screw on the knife. Fit, finish, and edge are dialed in before it ships, so it is ready to carry and ready to work right out of the box.

D2 is a high-carbon tool steel known for holding an edge through serious abuse. It is the same steel we use in our Tracker-X fixed blades. With roughly 12 percent chromium, D2 sits close to stainless, so it resists corrosion better than most tool steels. We take it further with a cryogenic treatment, a deep-freeze step after heat treat that improves wear resistance and edge stability. Hardened to 61 HRC, this blade keeps cutting long after softer steels give up.
Then we coat it in titanium nitride (TiN), applied by plasma deposition in a sealed vacuum chamber. The result is a hard, non-reflective finish that resists scratching and peeling and adds another layer of corrosion protection. It also looks the part.
Pull the flipper tab and the assisted opening takes over, driving the blade out fast and into a solid liner lock. One hand, every time. We would bet it becomes the fastest opener in your rotation. The liner lock holds firm under hard use, then disengages cleanly with your thumb when the job is done.
The Rapid Fire sits on the large side of EDC, but it does not carry like it. The pocket clip rides deep and can be mounted for left or right side, tip-up carry, and the handle is just 0.44 inches thick closed. Clip it on and forget it is there until you need it. The clip is now secured with stronger T8 screws, and a spare clip comes in the box.
G10 is a fiberglass laminate that is tough, stable, and unbothered by water, sweat, or temperature swings. The textured pattern on the Blackout scales locks into your hand, and the handle has room for a full four-finger grip, even for XL hands or gloves. Once the blade is open, the flipper tab doubles as a finger guard, and jimping on the thumb ramp and the back of the handle keeps your grip locked in. Wet, muddy, or cold, it stays put and stays ready to work.
